Hello guys. I’m Coach Mike Sillman. I started wrestling when I was ten years old, became the high school team captain, then regional and district champion. A little over four years ago I pivoted from wrestling to Brazilian jiu-jitsu. I’m originally from Michigan, then moved to California and lived in San Fransisco for ten years where I trained under Denny Prokopos – the first 10th Planet Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt. And now I live, work, and train here in the Austin area. Using my skills I have become a professional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitor, winning some of the most prestigious paid tournaments in the industry.
Martial Arts isn’t the only thing I have coached. I have four years of experience teaching chess to children, and three years of experience of teaching BJJ to teens and adults before I joined Vortex.
What I love about Vortex is the family atmosphere with Multiple Martial Arts to choose from. Everybody learns and works together, and we have fun! You can’t beat the family culture at Vortex.
Being part of Vortex has challenged me become a much better instructor through the VIP (Vortex Instructor Program). I can’t wait to meet you on the floor and coach you to take YOUR game to the next level!
